In the past week and a half, I have made progress on my author’s pages on Goodreads and on Amazon. I updated my Author’s Spotlight page on Goodreads, and created my author’s page on Amazon.

It is very cool to be able to have the blogs that I have posted on my author’s platform also made available on my Amazon author’s page, too.

Now, I need to begin understanding the following fields of self–publishing as thoroughly as I am able to do so:

Distribution, Marketing, Sales and Publicity

Learning about these areas is quite daunting for me as I am business challenged. I have never considered myself a business man, having spent most of my life as an avid fan of the visual and the performing arts, as well as a practicing teacher.

I have to reconfigure the mind set I have had for years about the four areas I listed above, and to adapt to strategies that best can be used to let folks know about the work I am creating that is involved with The Immortality Wars.

I do not want to become a “suit” about this endeavor, but begin laying down the groundwork for letting people know what I am trying to accomplish. I detest most commercialization as I believe it is mind numbing in its quest to tap into an insatiable appetite that is part of our very materialistic world.

This negative form of consumerism is not what I want to be a part of because its basic premise is mired in greed and in prizing money from people for the mere sake of identity buying. “I am what I have,” is a central tenet to an unleashed and harmful capitalism. It situates itself into one’s sense of self and clouds the ability to relate to others on a sincere basis of behavior.

I could not sell one book, and do not wish to do so, if that is the perspective I must adopt to become a self–published author.

However, if I can speak with people and let them know about the basis of this story that I am creating, I think that I can avoid going down that old, convoluted highway of salesmanship.

The story itself is centered on the war between selflessness and selfishness. Humanity’s desire for conquest over nature has led itself into an ultimate battle of control over life and death. The quest for immortality here is not for all, but only for a select few. It is for those who have the mind, money and muscle to wrest the secrets of nature into submission for their transcendence into eternity. The rest of civilization is pulled into this race towards divinity for the few.

War breaks out over the competing interests of those trying to capture the remaining parts of a formula for immortality that still elude the scientists and technicians of the 26^th century.

I think I have the foundation of a great story. As long as I can talk with others about it in the best ways possible, as long as I can strive toward a relational understanding with others about what this story is about, I think I will gain the attention, and perhaps, the following of my potential readers.

Here’s hoping that the triumph of the human spirit, at its finest and best expression, will win out in this tale.  If I can express its story in this futuristic fashion, I think it will prove to be a fascinating adventure . . .
